Aftermath of the Long Island Tornado Outbreak
When we think of when and where tornado outbreaks occur, it's very rare that it would be on Long Island in New York. But on November 13, 2021, in a span of two hours, there were six damaging tornadoes confirmed in Nassau and Suffolk County. This was the first time since records began that there was a tornado on the island during the month of November and also the most the region has even seen within a day. With millions of people's lives threatened, News 12 Long Island meteorologists Meredith Garofalo and Craig Allen stayed live on the air from the minute the first tornado warning was issued to the last, bringing accurate, honest, and detailed information to help keep viewers safe. Even with having a limited amount of staff on the weekends, the News 12 Long Island team was able to provide minute by minute updates before, during, and after the storm, and was the only station in the New York City market to have continuous breaking coverage of the event, which ended up with no injuries or fatalities.
