Meet Meredith Garofalo, the luminary behind Rocketgirl13. With a background in STEM and space, Meredith brings a whirlwind of passion and expertise to the table.
Meredith is a regional Edward R. Murrow award-winning Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and science/space correspondent. She most recently was a Freelance Meteorologist for Spectrum NY1 in New York City & CBS in Cleveland and Columbus.
She is the President of Rocket Girl Enterprise, LLC, doing contract work as a writer, content creator, mentor, and moderator/host, and consulting for companies including:
Space.Com, EarthSky, Kratos Defense, LiveScience, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), DepartmentC (Digital Content Creator for NASA’s Division of Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) division), World Space Week Association, The Open Notebook, Development Guild DDI, Tomorrow.io, Modularity Space, Tropical Weather Analytics, Inc., Skywatch, and Wyvern.
In 2024, Meredith was selected to be an All-American Entertainment (AAE) Featured Speaker, listed in the world's largest directory of motivational speakers, celebrities, presenters, and industry experts across a wide range of topics.
Her personal and professional work has also been recognized over the last decade. This includes the inaugural Valparaiso University Alumni Association First Decade Achievement Award, two special reports in News 12's Climate Special "Saving Our Shores" that won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, multiple Fair Media Council Folio & Press Club of Long Island awards for meteorology & reporting, and a Long Island Business News & NYC TV Week "40 Under 40" Award. In 2024, she was personally asked by NOAA to be the Master of Ceremonies for it’s “Sun, Moon, and You!” Total Solar Eclipse event in Dallas at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. She also moderated World Space Week’s 2024 Panel, Visionary Women -- Transforming Space Through Science, and was asked to give the keynote and host Space and Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) Mid-Atlantic’s Space & Satellite Soirée Winter Benefit in January 2025.
Meredith's 15+ year career includes a wide variety of experience across the US stemming from her internship at WGN-TV in Chicago. Meredith worked at local television stations in New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Florida, and California and nationally with WeatherNation. She’s been live out in the field during tropical storms, wildfires, snowstorms, and the aftermath from tornadoes. Meredith is also an accomplished reporter, producing weather and science stories. This includes rocket launches at Vandenberg Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral, in depth special reports and features on NOAA’s GOES-R and JPSS satellite series, and coverage on some of NASA’s biggest accomplishments. She’s interviewed some of the top scientists and leaders of the space & science community, being selected as the only meteorologist to travel with the GOES-West satellite from Colorado to Florida in 2017 on the C-5M Super Galaxy & for a 1-on-1 interview with the director of the National Weather Service on his retirement after 50 years.
Meredith frequents as a panel moderator at the Space Foundation’s Space Symposium & Satellite Conference, has been a judge for the Space Foundation's Space Technology Hall of Fame and host for Foundation for the Future’s “Liftoff!” podcast. Meredith spends countless hours doing school, career, & motivational talks and podcasts to help encourage women pursuing STEM careers and inspire our future generations. She moderates panels, serves as emcee for events, & conducts interviews to further storytelling on space & science topics.
Meredith is an accomplished singer & actor, most recognized performing the National Anthem for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Brooklyn Cyclones. She was invited as a guest performer for the New York Islanders leading the crowd in "New York, New York".
